First Child - Third Trimester (2/2)

Ninth Check-Up (7 February - 34 Weeks and 2 Day)
I was arranged for an Obstetric Follow-Up with Full Doppler Scan at another clinic assigned by our Gynae. The scan is to follow up from the last scan did when the baby was only 5 months. This scan measured the Fetal Measurements, Doppler (arteries), Amniotic Fluid and Position of my placenta.

The other results are okay except for my placenta which is still low-lying.  My Gynae then told me that C-Sect is the only option now and told me to let her know if we have preferred date to do so. Since previous visits, we already prepared to do C-sect and have asked my Mother in-law to check on the good date and hence we have decided on early March (Week 38).

My baby is now 2.7kg and i gained a total of 4kg for my pregnancy.

Since my placenta is still low-lying and i still have spotting from my last admission to hospital, my Gynae then extended my Hospitalisation Leave till my arranged C-Sect date.
I felt bad that i am away from work for very long, i also hope that i am well and no problem with my pregnancy and could go back to work.

Now, i spend most of the times resting on bed to reduce my spotting as well as to ensure that my baby could be delivered at the agreed date (week 38). Please please, stay strong and healthy inside okay baby !!!

Delivery Booking
Since we have decided on the date of C-section, the Gynae has arranged to book the Delivery room and the doctors involved for the delivery on the chosen date I was given a Form to fill up and to be submitted to Admission Office in MAH in my next visit and was asked to sign forms on the risks involving C-Sect. I was also given a list of charges (ie doctors' fees, surcharges and etc). I was also asked to be admitted to MAH on midnight at 12am on the day of delivery with no food and drink as my operation is to be scheduled at 8.30am.

BIG Day (18 February - 36 Weeks)
We can make plan but GOD's purpose will pervail....especially for baby birth...
So despite planning to deliver in early March, the baby decided to share the birthday month with his father which is in February.

On 16 February morning, there was blood gushing out (similar to when girls are having their monthly period) when i was about to take my shower.

I was shocked, and kept calling my hubby while crying. It was the day when i plan to pack my hospital bag (lesson learnt..should have packed it earlier). We thought it will be just another few days stay in hospital like last month, hence we did not bring anything to hospital.

The moment my gynae checked on me, she said the baby will be delivered on that day. However since i already had my breakfast, the emergency c-sect cannot be done in the same morning, hence i have to wait till afternoon. Meanwhile i was waiting at the delivery suite (the place where all the mom-to-be resting while waiting for the baby to be delivered).

While waiting, i asked my hubby to go back home and packed necessary things for my hospitalization stay. When the time comes, i was being pushed into the operation room for the c-sect. My hubby cannot come in with me as it was emergency c-sect and i decided to only have half GA instead of full so i will know all the process.

The moment i heard my baby cried in the operating room, it was the best moment in my life.

He is the answer to our prayers after 4 years of marriage and after all the shocking events during my pregnancy. Happy and relieved that he is born healthy.

He is born at 2.825kg at 36 weeks, not bad for a baby whom mother has been on diet during pregnancy (my gynae asked me to refrain from sweet food, replace white rice with brown rice since i was in 2nd trimester).

Journey in parenthood begin today!!!.....

First Child - Third Trimester (1/2)

Eight Check-Up (13 January - 30 Weeks and 5 Day)
On this day, we did a Placenta Site Scan at another clinic assigned by our Gynae. The scan is basically did a scan to check on the position of the placenta since i had low-lying placenta in my last scan. Once the scan was done, i went to my Gynae's clinic with the result on hand.

It was the day where i will know the result of my Blood Test and Glucose Test. Glucose Test passed with flying colour aka no diabetic but Gynae noted that i have low blood count aka anemia. Hence she asked me to take iron supplement to boost it up.

My total pregnancy weight became 2.5kg (i lost my weight due to surgery in December). My baby as usual always bigger than expected hahaha, he was 1.93kg. The Gynae mentioned that everything is well except that my placenta is still low-lying and hence we need to consider to option of C-section.

As my Hospitalisation Leave is over, i went back to office. I was not allowed by my hubby, parents and in-laws to take bus or mrt, and was asked to take taxi for return trips. I took Grab for 1 week, until another nightmare came upon me.

23 January (Monday) - Week 32 (Another nightmare -Hospitalisation)

I woke up around 5am as i felt that i peed on my pants. I went to toilet and noticed that i was bleeding (fresh blood like menstruation). I was shocked and panicked. I cleaned up myself, went out toilet to wake my hubby up and told him about it. We then called the emergency hotline in MAH (Mount Alvernia Hospital) and they connected me to my Gynae. She asked me to go to MAH immediately and warded under Delivery suite. On the way to hospital, I was crying and worrying about my baby as i knew that bleeding is not good while pregnant. My baby then was only Week 32 (not full term yet), i kept praying in my heart that baby would be alright and i did not have to deliver him early.

Once i reached MAH, i was warded to the Delivery suite, it is a place where all the mothers to-be are warded before their delivery. I was put under drip to help me with bleeding and contractions but the side effect of the drip was light-headed, nausea, palpitations and some will experience breathless. Thankfully i felt only the first three of side effects and not the last.

This time around, i told my hubby not to inform our parents. We wanted to hear from our Gynae before we inform our families so as not to worry them unnecessarily. Before my Gynae came to check on me in the afternoon, the nurses kept visiting me to do Contraction Test and Baby's heartbeat test, Blood Pressure Test and Temperature Test. My Gynae did ultrasound on my baby and told me that i bleed was because of my low-lying placenta. She asked me to stay in hospital to monitor my progress and my baby was alright (Thank God).

In the evening, noticed that the bleeding was no longer fresh blood but its more like old blood (darker red colour). Thereafter, we decided to inform our families and told them that my baby and i were fine and stayed in hospital to monitor. The next day, my bleeding is still dark red colour, and my gynae said it was a good sign and hence she was reducing my dosage in my drip bit by bit to ensure that i would not be dependent on the drip and could just rely on the oral medicine.

On Wednesday morning, my Gynae checked my contractions test result and my bleeding was better and hence i was given a green light to go home. She gave me about 3-weeks of Hospitalisation Leave and told me to bedrest at home.

Chinese New Year (CNY)

Since we knew that i was pregnant in last July, my parents in-law already decided to come to Singapore to spend CNY with us. In addition, my elder sister already planned to celebrate her daughter's 1st birthday in Singapore as her in-laws stay in Singapore. Hence my parents and my sisters planned to come to Singapore for 2017 CNY.

Since i need to minimise my walking, i have been taking Grabs and Taxis everywhere from 1st day to 3rd day of CNY and it was only for short visiting (ie visiting my hubby's grandma on 1st day of CNY, my niece's bday party on 2nd day of CNY and lunch with big family on 3rd day of CNY).

Those short days are my happiest days despite my pregnancy nightmares. It was the first time that my elder sister could celebrate CNY with us after she married 6 years ago. It was a happy day that my family is expanding from only 6 of us (parents and 4 sisters) to 9+2 (parents, 4 sisters, 3 my parents son in-law, 2 granddaughters and 1 grandson coming soon in few months).

Thank you for reading my pregnancy blog, Stay tuned for the next one (Pray that baby is co-operative).
